Acer has released a new BIOS v3304 for the Aspire One.
It would be nice if we can see what this BIOS Update did and what it fixed.
Well I think Acer began to realize that the fan is too loud so the new Bios has a temperature controlled fan
also the Software tool for manual fan controll doesn’t work any more
Yes now the fan is under temperature controlled. But AA1 software cannot work any more.
I’m new to Linux/Linpus. Can somebody explain me how to run the file 3304.bat without getting the error ‘ Permission denied’ ? Thanks.
I downloaded the 3301 zip file. Extracted
it to a new folder on my C drive. Saw the
.bat file there. Clicked on it. Saw a
dos screen come up for about 1 second and
close. Restarted acer one. Checked bios
and it is still the original bios. What did I do wrong. Thanks in advance Zeide
well you just don’t click on the .bat to install it, first you need a bootable USB drive, and a FreeDos kernel and the .bat file in the USB and insert the usb, turn on the aa1, press f12 and execute the .bat file in the prompt, for a step by step instructions, read here: http://www.aspireoneuser.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=1264&start=0&st=0&sk=t&sd=a
Macles has a guide to do it. I’m a complete linux (and losedows) nono, and it worked for me.

Is this update something that ALL of us need to install, including Windows machines?
Sorry Jhedrotten. I had no idea how to do
this operation. Seems it is a lot of work
to this user. Can they not make a bios
flash file easier to install. At 60 years
old I am not as savvy as the young folks are with comuter functions. Zeide.
how do you install the new bios on an xp version , i have no idea how to do it, i downloaded the zip file from acer but what do i do with it ,can anyone help please???????????
lewis84,
1. You need a USB flash drive (SanDisk or any Generic brand)
2. Make it bootable to DOS by following these instructions:
http://macles.blogspot.com/2008/07/flashing-bios.html
(NOTE: The screenshot shows the Drive is /dev/sb1. This screenshot seems to be done from a Linux machine. From XP, the Drive shows up as D:\ or E:\. Verify that that is the correct drive letter for your USB flash drive).
3. After running the unetbootin-windows-latest.exe program, unzip the new BIOS files and copy the three files: 3304.bat, flashit.exe and ZG_3304.fd to the flash drive
4. Leave the flash drive in the USB port, reboot, hit F12 at the initial boot prompt.
5. Select “Safe Mode” when you boot.
6. It should bring you to a DOS screen with A:> prompt
7. Change to the C: drive by typing: C: followed by ENTER
8. Type: 3304
(You need to have your laptop connected to external power supply or it won’t work).
9. When you reboot, hit F2 at the boot prompt and verify that your Bios version is 3304
wow. no changelog. how safe is this one?
thanks Machani , ill get a spare usb pen and try it out , ill let everyone know what happens and if its worth doing.
try this way, its easy and works well

hey guys tried it, made flash bootable to dos etc. , pressed f12 at restart but only 3 options popped on screen something to do with haitachhi, one to do with usb2 flash and something else , but no safe mode so since i didnt know what i was doing i thought i would just leave it alone
ok so i managed to figure it out lol , me being dumb, but when flashing finished , i pressed f2 when it was re booting and it says the bios are v.3304, which is good that it worked, but i hear no change in the amount of fan noise , acer supposed to have fixed the problem, but it has not changed anything with the fan
After updating bios I have issues with WiFi. Sometimes my Wifi card is just not working, neighter on Ubuntu nor on XP. Any reboot doesn’t help. I had this problem three times, and what’s interesting – every time after removing battery everything worked. I’m not sure if it is caused of BIOS update, but the problem appeared after I did it.

many thanks to Ralf Neumüller
[...] way to boot into DOS is to boot from a USB flash drive. I followed the recommendations from the Aspire One User webpage here and managed to update the BIOS fairly painlessly. The page actually links to instructions laid out [...]
