T-Mobile Germany have announced a deal which will see them selling a heavily-subsidized Acer Aspire One netbook along with 3G WWAN data access. The setup, which will be internal an HSDPA modem, is similar to that recently announced by Vodafone in the UK, who have an exclusive European deal with Dell to offer 3G versions of the Inspiron Mini 9 netbook..
T-Mobile Germany will be selling the Aspire One for just one Euro ($1.43), as long as users agree to a two-year data contract at €35 per month ($50). That works out to €841 over the two years, or $1200, which is more than the Vodafone/Dell deal; however there’s no word on what the data limit is. Vodafone’s offer has a rather meagre 1GB cap.
Also unclear is which version of the Aspire One is on offer, the hard-drive or SSD based netbook. Presumably Vodafone will be bundling the cheapest, which suggests the Linux OS and 8GB of SSD storage.
Thanks to slashgear for the info.
Wow! Can’t wait till we get these deals here in the US.
1Gb is not a meagre amount when you are mobile. I get that on 3 in the UK for £10/month and have yet to get anywhere near the limit over 3G. I have used it for 9 months on an EEE 701 and hope to move it over to my new AAO 110W once I get the modem working under ubuntu.
can you get the 3g adapters separately?
Here in the Netherlands they doing that for 2 monds now
nothing new ![]()

“recently announced by Vodafone in the UK, who have an exclusive European deal with Dell”
yeah the UK is a smal part 1/32 of Europ
so there is no exclusive European deal
only exlusive for the UK
wimpie, with my lack of Dutch, is that really a 3G Aspire One? Or just an Aspire One + USB 3G?
Nah . . . I don’t think so. “20mbps” is not a 3G term, like “3.6mbps” or “7.2mbps”.
I really hope there will be a 3G model released here in Indonesia . . . which is highly unlikely, I’m afraid (sniff)
Actually it’s an Acer Aspire One 150X, 160GB hard drive, and the modem is external. (you can see it here). The flatrate is 39,95€ a month for 24 months and is unlimited, that is, 5GB included and from then on your speed is limited to 64Kbps for the rest of the month. Taking into account that the same flatrate really costs the same if you don’t “buy” the AA1 (only you get 2 months free if you subscribe online), it’s a very good deal.
Funny enough they came up with that offer a couple of weeks after I bought mine AA1, and now I’m still trying to decide what mobile internet provider to get on mine (which has Linux, btw)… it’s a tough choice…
