RadioShack customers are to get the Aspire One for $99, buyers will have to sign-up for AT&T’s data contract worth $60 or more.  Seems a fairly decent deal especially if your looking for the Internet on the move.

Good deal? I guess that depends. The 3G service contract at $60/month will total $720 for just one year and it’s a two year deal.

Now, if you don’t mind dumping a broadband connection and settling for slower internet with 3G, then it’s a smashing deal. Better make sure you have 3G service at home though.

And, if a person is on the go alot and really uses the 3G service, then the computer would almost be free at $99 since ATT charges everyone $60 for 3G computer service.

I recently bought a iPhone with the $30 data plan. I’m hoping one of these days ATT will allow tethering (maybe even with a slight bump up in monthly service from $30 to maybe $40 for tethering.

I just bought this basic computer with the addition of 160 HD and the 6 cell battery for $379.

Will this be a different model with the 3G card and sim slot intact or will this require a USB 3G dongle?

It is a different model – the ZG5 – that has a SIM slot behind the battery.

I picked one up as I’ve been tethering my cell phone to my old laptop for ages. Nice, but I can’t use the phone while on the internet plus i have the usb cord to contend with.

So yes, I wouldn’t get it for the laptop, but it’s a wonderful deal for anyone looking into the data plan anyway. As a note, the 3G data plan also included full unlimited WiFi access at any ATT hotspot, such as Starbucks.

I was looking into doing this is the first place, so a $99 netbook is gravy. I’m just glad that it’s the AspireOne as I was only interested in it, the HP mininote, or the MSI Wind. And the Wind only because they’ve got OSX86 working the best on it currently.
