HOW-TO: set classic desktop on LinpusOS

Postby Felinux » Sun Aug 17, 2008 11:03 pm

1_ Panel customization:
Press "Alt + F2" and type
Code: Select all
xfce4-panel -a

With this utility we can add or remove plugins to panel simply to drag and drop.

2_ Desktop customization:
Press "Alt + F2" and type
Code: Select all
sudo mousepad /etc/xdg/xfce4-session/xfce4-session.rc

Change only this two strings:
Client0_Command=xfdesktopnew
[...]
Client3_Command=/usr/share/search-bar/start-search_bar.sh

with:
Client0_Command=xfdesktop-xfce
[...]
Client3_Command=xfce-mcs-manager.new

Save file xfce4-session.rc, reboot and enjoy your new, simple and classic desktop!!

Alright, followed the instructions. Upon restarting, I get the default background. Ticking "Allow Xfce to manage the desktop" allows me to change the background, but also calls xfdesktop2 which brings the menu back...

Edit: Alright, somehow I've managed to get it so that a simple xfdesktop-xfce command will get things how I want after startup, but isn't that supposed to be done automatically?
