I've a solution for your problem: when you're using battery you must to play a sound before shutdown (the volume up or down sound is ok).
The problem is caused by the sleeping of the audiocard when you use battery to preserve the battery charge.
If you play a sound and shut down less than 30 second the audiocard does'nt go sleeping and you can shut down without any problem.

To play a sount at shutdown you can use a software called SoundSystem Enabler it's freeware.
Exist also a kext that prevent this malfuncioning but it doesn't enable internal microphone and phone auto switch..
It's an old driver...
