Acer is preparing a new 10.1-inch netbook armed with an Intel Pineview processor. The Acer Aspire One 532 (AO532h) is listed on Acer’s driver pages and it seems that this model is already listed by some e-tailers where the specs were found.

The Aspire One 532 will come with a 10.1-inch high resolution (1280 x 720) display and will be powered by the upcoming 1.66GHz Intel Pineview N450 Atom processor and GMA 3150 graphics. It will also come with 1GB RAM, a 160GB/250GB HDD and Windows 7 Starter.

Other features include a 3-cell battery, 5-in-1 card reader, 0.3MP webcam and three USB ports. It will be available in four different colours (Blue, Red, Black and Silver) and prices look like they’ll start from €299. If that price is true, Acer could have a winner on their hands! Check out the evidence after the break.

Laptop Mag have done a review on all the new 10″ netbooks out, including the new Acer Aspire One.

Anyone looking to purchase a netbook in the past year has a plethora of choices and very likely a clear idea of what a netbook is good for. However, knowing what you want out of a netbook may not help narrow down your choices much. Just eliminating the 7 and 8.9-inch machines, you’re left with over half a dozen 10-inch choices, all of which can seem pretty similar.

Back in November ‘08 we compared five of the leading 10-inch netbooks to see which scored best in performance, design, and value.  The Samsung NC10 and the MSI Wind U110 lead the pack with excellent battery life and user-friendly design (which included great keyboards).  But now there’s a new 10-incher on the block: the Acer Aspire One.  Plus, both ASUS and MSI released updates to their models.  So we decided to take a fresh look.

When Acer recently demoed their 10 inch Aspire One netbooks, many reviewers were pleasantly surprised to discover a netbook that could boast an uptime of nearly 8 hours while under moderate use. That was largely made possible by the battery capacity, which was a six-cell 5800mAh unit. Unfortunately for potential owners of the netbook, the units that reviewers (and some early bird customers) got were “mistakenly” shipped with the larger battery.

Most of the units will actually be delivered with a 4400mAh battery which would in turn have a shorter runtime. Acer claims the smaller unit will still get around 6 hours of battery life, though one review site speculates it’d be lucky to get 5.5 hours, compared to other netbooks with similar sized batteries and specs.

On Wednesday, an Acer spokesperson told ZDNet UK that the 10-inch Aspire One “will be available with XP or Linux, and HDD or SSD”, and confirmed that the Linux distribution would be Linpus. However, buyers will not have these options in the initial release of the netbook, which will launch in mid-February and cost £299.

The SSD will have a capacity of 16GB. There is, as yet, no launch date or pricing for the Linux flavour of the machine.

Unlike the 8.9-inch Aspire One, the 10-inch version will not have a second SD card slot. In the earlier version, the second SD slot was there to hold a flash memory card that would be more-or-less permanently housed in the netbook to augment the 8GB or 16GB SSD. According to Acer’s spokesperson, the new version lacks that second slot “due to the increase in standard storage sizes”.
